African Dream Root - Instructions for Use
Share
I want to begin by stating that this spiritual tool has great cultural significance among the Xhosa People- A tribe native to the Eastern Cape Pavilion in Africa. It is important to remember that when utilizing tools from other cultures, it is critically important to acknowledge that this is their tool and custom, and to not try to twist it into our own. When using another culture's method, one must educate themselves on associated customs and must hold deep respect for the tool as well as those who have shown us these techniques.
While less ubiquitous than other dream herbs such as Calea Zacatechichi, the African Dream Root (Silene Capensis) is notorious for its potent influence on the dream experience. People report that after using the dream root for a few days in a row, their dreams become much more prophetic, meaningful, vivid, and sometimes, lucid.
It can be somewhat difficult to figure out how to prepare this root for consumption, but don't be fooled. If you have a way to grind up/crush the herbs, its a piece of cake. Here's the best/most unanimous way I found after scouring the internet for countless hours.
Step 1: Begin with the root!
Step 2: If you have a mortar and pestle, this is going to be a breeze. Otherwise, you may be able to get away with a high quality blender or grinder.
Step 3: Measure out 200 milligrams of the root (or 0.2 grams on a pocket scale). The active dose is pretty small, so be careful. It's not toxic but too much may cause you to puke.
Step 4: Fill a container with both the water and the crushed root, and shake violently until it creates a foam.
Step 5: Use a straw to slurp up the foam only. Once it's "slurped", shake again and drink the new foam. Continue doing this until you feel full, or otherwise have had enough.
This process is to be done in the morning on an empty stomach. I know it sounds counterintuitive to do in the morning, though it is thought to have a build-up effect over time- as opposed to other dream herbs which are used at night since they affect dreaming more acutely.
Since the African Dream Root is all about the build-up effect, continue doing this process daily until you begin to notice a big difference in your dreams. It should take 2-3 days to really notice a difference.
